Bathgate JAC Cast a Spell on the Judges to Claim Cabaret Trophy

1st – Bathgate JAC, “Spells & School Bells”

The night was a roaring success with a total of 8 teams performing, the highest since COVID!

Bathgate JAC used all the tricks in their spellbook in a magical performance which secured them the BP Farm Service Perpetual Trophy for the second year running. Their showing of ‘Spells & School Bells’ took top spot with 86 2/3 points.

Producers Kathryn Russell and Emma Inglis expressed their excitement at the result, stating,

“We are delighted to have won East Cabaret after a tough competition. The cast have worked extremely hard to pull together a fantastic performance”

2nd – Perthshire District, “Despicable Heist”

 

Best Performer Outwith Winning Team – Nick Hutchon, Perthshire

 

A close second on the night were Perthshire District, who with 85 points for their performance ‘Despicable Heist’ were inches away from stealing the title. Although Aberfeldy & District JAC member Nick Hutcheon did make off with the award for Best Performer Outside the Winning Team for his portrayal of Gru.

 

3rd – East Fife JAC, “Anster My Home” 

Claiming third place was East Fife JAC, who took the audience on a voyage with their performance, ‘Anster My Home,’ scoring a commendable 71 1/3 points out of 100.

 

Best Comedy Act – Jesika Rennie, Bell Baxter ADS

Jesika Rennie, from Bell Baxter ADS, won Best Comedy Act for her captivating imitation of Bruno Tonioli in their showcase of ‘Diddly Come Dancing’.

When asked for his reflections on the evening, East Region Chair and compere on the night, James Kennedy had this to say,

“Unbelievable! What a night we had in Perth at this year’s East Cabaret! All 8 of our teams performed to an incredible standard, making it no easy task for our judges! We can’t wait to welcome all of our teams back to the concert hall stage on Saturday 14th February 2026!”

The judges for the night were David Smith, Katie Sanderson, and Amanda Renwick. In his closing remarks Mr Smith praised the teams for their performances, stating,

“We were looking for something in the performance to capture our eye and leave a lasting memory and the competitors certainly delivered”.
