08 Jul Strathearn earn the win at East Rally 2024
Adniston Farm in East Lothian [Lothian & Peebles District] was the host venue for the 2024 East Region Rally, by kind permission of the Kennedy Family.
Strathearn JAC scooped the winnerโs title for a second year in the row!ย A huge achievement after competing against 13 other clubs for the Bibby Shield.
Pipped at the post in second were Peeblesshire JAc and coming in third were the home club of East Lothian JAC.
The day kicked off with the junior and senior sections of Produce Show. Seniors made;Fruit Scones, Marmalade, Millionaires Shortbread, Mocktails and a themed photograph.
Juniors made; Cheese Scones, Lemon Curd, Cookies, smoothies and a themed photograph.
Stockjudging and valuation shortly followed, where members had 6 classes of cattle and sheep to judge and over 20 agricultural items to valuate. The afternoon saw the beginning of the main competitions, including fault finding, grading lambs, digger driving, farm business quiz, floral art arranging, identification plus many more.
The final section of the day was a favourite of the clubs, the sports! Members competed in a wheelbarrow race, 100m sprint, 100m relay race and an obstacle course set up by East Lothian JAC and East Chair, James Kennedy. Spectators witnessed our members jumping over bales, crawling under nets, and plunging themselves into pools of water in order to slide into first place.
The day saw the return of the East Young Farmer Of The Year eliminations. This year East also welcomed the arrival of some Westies who also participated in their own elimination. With 14 members competing for 2 spaces at the national final, the competition was tight! Special thanks must go to past winner, David Smith who complied the farm business quiz that really got all competitors brain’s thinking!
Many thanks to the Kennedy family for their premises and all their generous help. Thanks to our judges and values and to Dod Seed who kindly supported the whole day.ย Thanks must also go to all our stewards and scorers especially, Anne Craig, Michael Rolfe, Ellen Glennie, Angela Webster, John Paton and East Vice Chair Lucy Orr. Also, thank you to NR Agri who supported our raffle, well done to all winners!
