31 Jan North Conference
Conference Weekend in the Peterhead
The 2023 North region conference was held at the Waterside Hotel in Peterhead from Friday 27th to 29th January.
Delegates from across the North Region, representing 7 out of the 8 districts, gathered to enjoy the annual conference weekend. The traditional Friday evening formal dinner and ceilidh got the weekend off to a lively start.
On Saturday morning the group headed out to Peterhead Prison for a tour of what was classed as βScotlandβs toughest prisonβ for 125 years. Recently closed in 2013, all the group agreed this was a very interesting insight into prison life and history.
In the afternoon the members were kindly hosted by Jane and Bruce Mackie of Rora Diary, Middleton of Rora, Longside. The family run a 250 cow Holstein herd through their robotic dairy alongside grass and arable production. They took great pride in showing the group their yoghurt production plant and of course everyone appreciated a taste of the finished product!
Later in the day the delegates were given a talk on the international travel opportunities available to them through SAYFC by National Chair, Lucy Mitchell and North Region Vice Chair, Sally Mair.
Saturday night played host to a fancy dress themed disco, where delegates embraced the theme of βCharity Shop Chicβ. Outfits were varied with many charity shops having benefitted from increased sales in the days preceding the conference! The members danced the night away to Nightfever Discos.
Proceedings came to a close on Sunday with a members meeting before packing up and heading home after enjoying an interesting and varied weekend in the North East of Scotland.
