Mollie Keiley, Stewartry YFC

Hello, I’m Mollie Keiley. I’m 17 years old and have grown up on a small holding just outside Haugh of Urr. I have been a member of Stewartry YFC since 2021! I am currently finishing my last year of school and then going on to study Rural Business Management at the Barony.

Q&A

What is your story away from YF (employment and other hobbies)

I have been brought up around Belted Galloways, first helping my granny show, now we’ve built up our own herd we have now been showing for about 5 years keeping up with the family tradition! Why did you join?

I joined Stewartry as it became clear through my job that I would find my type of people in young farmers! I hoped that it would grow my confidence in areas I would normally avoid such as Concerts and Talent Spots.

What have you got out of YF?

I think the main thing I have gained from young farmers is confidence in myself and the ability to speak publicly. What do you want to get out of YF in the future?

I hope that through young farmers I will travel, meet new people, gain new skills and hopefully try to make a positive impact on young farmers and the industry in general!

What’s your random fact?

I told the school I was off with a sickness bug and then was seen on Border News at the Highland Show competing in young handlers, it’s safe to say the headteacher wasn’t best pleased!

We’re putting our New Members in the Spotlight, asking them about their YF experience and their hopes for the future.

[1
["post-16869","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized

I am also a keen sailor and have been racing at Solway Yacht Club for a number of years!

I currently work at the Laurie Arms in Haugh of Urr which is owned by a local farmer’s wife, it introduced me to young farmers as they are the main clientele!

I have now produced a talent spot myself which is something I could have never imagined I would do! Young farmers is constantly opening me up to new things and I am so grateful for that!

I have also found an amazing group of friends I wouldn’t have elsewhere!
