Andrew Beattie of Forfar won this year’s National Craftmanship Competition with his spectacular Rocking Toy Digger. The 27 year old had placed in the last three years of the competition so this year he was determined to get his hands on the National Title:

“I have previously competed in the Craftmanship over the last 3 years placing 2nd twice and 3rd once! When SAYFC released the task of creating a rocking toy this year I thought I would pull out all of the stops to get the red ticket!

After a bit of head scratching I decided to make a rocking toy digger. It was mainly made from steel with the seat being made out of wood. I worked on the digger a few nights a week over 2 months with it being the most complicated Craftmanship entry I have done to date. I finally finished it 1 day before the competition entry deadline.

It felt fantastic to finally win the competition after coming so close in the previous years.

I would also like to encourage all SAYFC members to take part in the Craftmanship competition. It’s a great way to showcase members fabrication and design skills off”

Well done to everyone who competed, it was a very strong year of competition with some wonderfully crafted and creative entries throughout.
