{"id":4015,"date":"2021-02-13T08:07:31","date_gmt":"2021-02-13T08:07:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sayfc.org\/keep-our-heads-up-and-look-forward-to-better-days-3\/"},"modified":"2021-02-15T17:19:05","modified_gmt":"2021-02-15T17:19:05","slug":"qms-discussion-groups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sayfc.org\/qms-discussion-groups\/","title":{"rendered":"New network launches for young producers to connect and collaborate [QMS]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sayfc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2020\/03\/QMS.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4034\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sayfc.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2021\/02\/QMS-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The launch of the new Young Producers\u2019 Discussion Groups, facilitated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qmscotland.co.uk\/\"><strong>Quality Meat Scotland (QMS)<\/strong><\/a>, will provide an opportunity for young farmers to connect, expand their network, and engage in open and honest discussion about industry issues.<\/p>\n<p>The groups, which are comprised of three regional branches \u2013 <strong>North, East and West<\/strong> \u2013 will formally kick off with a virtual meeting on 25 February at 7:00pm. The initiative aims to engage and build the business confidence of young producers and is hosted in partnership with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sayfc.org\/\"><strong>Scottish Association of Young Farmers\u2019 Clubs (SAYFC)<\/strong><\/a> Agri Affairs movement.<\/p>\n<p>With a focus on demand-driven content, the groups will be open to any young producer in Scotland and will welcome guest speakers to challenge and inspire attendees to \u2018think differently\u2019 about the future of their business and the industry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Guest speaker at the first virtual event QMS Chair, Kate Rowell, said:<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>\u201cThese discussion groups are a great opportunity for young people who sometimes work in quite remote and isolated areas to develop a support network and come together to consider how the\u00a0 agricultural industry can approach different challenges.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Joining Kate as guest speaker at the online event is <strong>Andrew Marchant<\/strong>, from Clonhie Farm in Dumfries and Galloway, who is a former Monitor Farmer and, <strong>alongside wife Aileen<\/strong>, was awarded the 2019 New Entrant of the Year at the British Farming Awards.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beth Alexander, QMS Cattle and Sheep Specialist who will be facilitating the group, said:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s important to provide young producers with a platform to encourage discussion around the successes and challenges of working in the agricultural industry. The benefits of speaking with like-minded people and knowing that the problems you face on farm and in the wider industry, are likely mirrored in those that are also attending can\u2019t be underestimated.
